As a 2005 Pratt graduate in Biomedical Engineering, Tom Rose is the current the Duke Smart Home Program Director. Tom has been working with this project since conceptualization with Mark Younger. He manages student project teams, directs project research, advises the architecture, design, and construction process, and is responsible for curriculum integration. Tom is the main point of contact for questions from the public and industry.

John Board is the Faculty Director of Duke Smart Home Program. Dr. Board not only serves as a mentor and guide for the project, but as a member of ECE faculty and professor of Embedded Systems also has had in interest in systems integration. Dr. Board is also helping to increase graduate student involvement in the project.

Barry Myers oversees the program and is responsible for promoting industrial interaction. In his capacity as Director of the Center for Entrepreneurship and Research Commercialization, Dr. Myers is also integral to bringing students and faculty from across the campus to the Smart Home project.

The Student President of the Duke Smart Home Program oversees the program and works with the Director to set and promotes program vision and goals. The President also oversees the executive board and maintains communication with all Smart Home personnel.

The Executive Vice President of the Duke Smart Home Program is responsible for the Duke Smart Home Competition as well as for the management of group and student project teams. The Vice President also performs other miscellaneous executive duties such as implementing technical projects in the home, and coordinating with other on-campus groups.

The VP of House Initiatives is responsible for the programmatic aspects of the house. This person is a resident of the house and works in a collaborative manner to ensure that the mission of the Smart Home as an intellectually stimulating environment promoting innovation in advanced living technology is met. In particular, the VP of House Initiatives oversees tours, engineering projects for the house, and coordinates dinners and publicity events with the House Manager.

The House Manager is responsible for working with RLHS to maintain safe conditions inside Duke Smart Home. The House Manager is responsible for making sure that they are on the central campus CA email list. The House Manager is the point of contact between Smart Home residents, RLHS, and Pratt. The House Manager is responsible for working with Pratt and RLHS to maintain and implement the house "Operating Guidelines". The House manager is responsible for coordinating bi-weekly events at Smart Home designed to attract outsiders. The House Manager is responsible for informing residents of cleanliness issues, and expecting them to respond in a timely fashion.

The Public Relations Director is responsible for preparing all Smart Home posters, banners, flyers, and any other public materials. The PR director al represents the Smart Home at public events and information sessions.
Nancy Wang, Industry Relations Director

The Industry Relations Director is resonsible for leeding efforts to secure both in-kind and monetary donations for Smart Home and student projects. The PR Director also works with the president and director to create and develop collaborative relationships with other organizations, as well as attending conferences, fairs, and symposiums.

The Treasurer is responsible for pursuing and managing funding from DSG, ESG, and EAC. The Treasurer is also responsible for keeping track of all spending on the purchasing card, and keeping up-to-date records of all expenses.

The Secretary is responsible for maintaining the student roster and applicable meeting agendas and minutes. The Secretary also collects and organizes presentations and reports and acts as an intermediary when mass correspondence is sent out and feedback is necessary.

Romit Roy Choudhury's research focuses on Wireless Networks, Mobile Computing, and Sensor Networks. His current work revolves around designing networking systems, ranging from theory, protocols, and prototype implementation. He also has a keen interest in developing next generation wireless networking applications, often of commercial interest. Many of these applications are in the context of social/human networks.

Dr. Johnson is an Assistant Professor and Informatician in the Duke University School of Nursing. Her research focuses on cancer risk modeling and risk communication. She has a strong interest in human-centered computing. She is currently working with a multidisciplinary team on the development of a cancer risk model and assessment tool based on published evidence of epidemiologic and clinical factors. In conjunction with this modeling work, she is working on a new approach to building web-based interfaces, on the development of an interactive website that hosts the model and and is researching representation of risk to healthcare consumers.

Deirdre K. Thornlow, PhD, RN, CPHQ, Assistant Professor at Duke University School of Nursing and Senior Fellow in the Duke Center for the Study of Aging and Human Development, is an advanced practice nurse with over 20 years experience in healthcare. Dr. Thornlow is pursuing a program of health services research that capitalizes upon her expertise in acute care quality and patient safety. Dr. Thornlow's research examines the association between patient safety practices and outcomes in hospitalized older adults and she is interested in developing and testing risk stratification tools that assist clinicians to assess and predict patient risk for adverse events.

Dr. Harman is the Faculty Advisor to the Duke Smart Homem Program. Dr. Harman facilitates the arrangement of independent study projects and sits on the Advisory Board. With extensive experience in the completion of the Fitzpatrick Center for Interdisciplinary Engineering, Medicine and Applied Sciences building project, he has transitioned to help manage building design and construction.
